Hallertau Blanc BSG Info Sheet
Breeding/Development: Germany. A daughter of Cascade released in 2012 and bred specifically to answer the needs of American craft beer styles.
Brewing Application: Aroma, particularly whirlpool and dry hopping to take full advantage of the very high myrcene fraction. With its pronounced tropical profile, Hallertau Blanc has strong affinity for many of the same styles as southern hemisphere hops: IPA, Belgian ales, wheat beer, and Brett fermentations.
Sensory: Moderate to strong featuring pineapple, gooseberry, white grape, fresh lemongrass stalk, and passionfruit. Reminiscent of many recent Southern Hemisphere varieties, but with a cleaner, less “dank” profile.
The Hops List describes Hallertau Blanc in one of its amazing description: "Hallertau Blanc, daughter of Cascade, was released to the world in 2012. Established on the Hüll farm in the German Hallertau region, it was grown primarily for use in American-style Ales. Hallertau Blanc’s flavor profile is said to be fruity, with wine-like qualities of gooseberry and grass, similar to that of Sauvignon Blanc. It also features a complex aroma profile with notes of cassis and elderflower in addition to grapes, grapefruit and lemongrass. Other notes detected in trials have been passionfruit, pineapple and gooseberry."
Typical Alpha range is 9%-12% AA.
